Break the Fight – Breaking Borders! (2018)
The theme of this show is our own boundaries; how they relate to the world, our bodies, and our minds. What are my own boundaries? What are the boundaries of my friend? Where do boundaries come from? What do boundaries tell us? The show is a mixture of breakdance, contemporary dance, live beatboxing, rap, video, and light art. This show will be updated to version 2.0.
Break the Fight – In Love! (2015)
A duet about meeting someone, falling in love and all the wonderful and horrible feelings that come along with love. Directed by choreographer Arja Tiili, amazing dancers Elena Ruuskanen and Emre Sevim give a beautiful rendition of the duet’s message. The dance style is a mixture of contemporary dance, physical theatre, and breaking. The duet (duration: 15 mins) is available for various events and schools, and can be combined with anti-bullying workshops for children and adolescents.
Break the Fight – I Was Here! (2015)
A show about the exercise of power, violence, and anxiety but also about dreams and the strength that emanates from working together. The show combines different elements from street culture. The explosively skilled breaking is punctuated with contemporary dance and rapping. The dancing is amplified by the energetic visuals of video animations. What drives us apart? What brings us together? What does it take to become oneself, and to be oneself? Moment by moment, the stage transforms into schoolyard gangs and confrontations, as well as common skills and moments of succeeding. In the fantasy world, one can be both the most popular and the violent avenger. The show is about the courage to be oneself, and the understanding to accept ourselves and others as we are. The show (duration: 45 mins) is available for various events and festivals, and can be combined with anti-bullying workshops for children and adolescents.
All Matters – No Escape! (2011)
The third and final part of the Raw Materials trilogy moves the scope from the personal to the global. The show is about power, and the forms and definitions of the exercise of power, justice, and oppression. The group asks: “What type of power am I subjected to?” and “What power do I have?”. The show’s raw materials are war statistics, breaking, documentary films from Moscow, Helsinki and Chechnya, rap from Lappeenranta, disco dancing from the golden seventies, and John Oswald’s musical potpourri from the nineties. The show includes the performers’ personal memories of bullying.
